Resources for teaching special needs learners and ELL students

For students with special needs, sometimes online learning could be a challenge. Fortunately, the internet saves the day! There are so many resources for teachers to get ideas and information on how to create a great and meaningful learning experience online for students who special needs or students who are learning the English language. For example, IXL Worldwide, Funbrain, and Reading Rocket. One of my favorite apps for special needs and ELL students is Chatterpix. It may seem simple, but it can help students with reading comprehension and their writing as well. Students can use this app and turn an inanimate object into a character! Students record their voice onto the app and the character has a mouth that mimics what a students would be. Apps like this are fun and entertaining, but they serve a great purpose as well. In this class we each bought a text book titled "The ELL Teacher's Toolbox" by Larry Ferlazzo. In this book, it is FILLED with examples on strategies for teaching to students who are ELL. There are 45 different strategies that all connect to standards, shows how to apply it in a classroom, gives examples, and how to integrate technology into the strategy! Students who are special needs or ELL need plenty of resources to feel comfortable and get a great learning experience. There are translating sites, and Google suite is equipped with a translator on most of the apps! Students with special needs or students who are ELL sometimes need that extra help or extra push! So... one great way that I will most definitely be implementing in my classroom is giving access to a google classroom that houses all the information about the class, important handouts and take home documents, how to contact me, homework reminders, a place to submit questions, and other similar resources! Sometimes these students lose track of papers or need help staying a little organized. Parent involvement is key, and giving them access to an online classroom like so it a step in the right direction! Overall the internet is your best friend for resources for ELL and special needs learners, but if you can get your hand on that book... that is an AMAZING tool!

Using Google Forms for Digital Assessments and More

Google forms is an app apart of the Google suite that allows you to collect information through a personalized quiz or survey. This can be used in so many different ways not only in a classroom setting but for everyone who uses it! When creating a Google form, you can customize the questions, like having multiple choice, fill in the blank, file upload, check boxes, multiple choice grids and the input time as well. You name it, Google forms can record it for you! Google forms can be used for sign in and out sheets, quizzes, feedback, and bell ringers too! All the information from these forms can be quickly transported into a a spreadsheet to be able to review the information that was out in by the students. Your form does not need to be boring though! You can create cute backgrounds and have theme colors on your Google form to give it more of a fun look! There is also an option on Google forms to allow it to automatically grade submissions. I'm going to be honest, I am not quite sure how to use it, but I know it's available! I am very interested in using that, especially when I have my own classroom! Soon I plan on finding a good video, and learning how to use the automatic grading system! Rather than using clickers, teachers are turning to Google forms, and that is a great thing! Google forms proves itself that it is efficient and easily operable every single time you use it! I used to use Google forms at my old job where we took inventory on thousands of Ipads and other devices. We used Google forms as a check in/check out system and we could even email the students their receipts of turning it in! All from a few clicks of a button. I think it would be great to use Google forms as a check in/check out system in the classroom. Students could fill out a form to check out supplies, books, and tools they need to learn, and if something comes up missing, the teacher could find information on the checked out item instantly! See... the possibilities are endless!

All the Tips and Tricks to Google Slides

Google slides is a Google app that allows you to create presentations for all different audiences! Google slides is also the app that many teachers use to create their Bitmoji Classrooms! Google slides is kinda like the "better" Powerpoint in my opinion. Because Google slides is on Google, through the internet, students can access the same presentation, at the same time, even when they are miles apart. There is so much that can be created when working with Google slides and you can create and chat with the users who have access to the slides while doing so! You can make the link to your presentation private, or share it with whoever you want that has a Google account. There are so many features that are in Google slides like creating a cool theme, attaching videos and pictures, shapes, graphs and more! Since this is a part of the Google suite, you can add photos right off of Google without having to save them onto your computer! You can make your presentation your own with transitions and music! Google slides really is amazing for group work. Students can log onto a device at home to work on their assignments, and that is great! But also, there are always students who are more shy and don't want to work in groups...This way, group work can be achieved and not just one person is doing all the discussions! I know I will use Google slides in my future classroom. I use it so much already! When I first came to college I did almost all my assignments through Microsoft. But, after learning so much about Google and all the different apps, I don't even have a need to use Microsoft anymore... Google is much more efficient and collaboration based! Google is just very "with the times"... I love it!

In this blog there are a few examples of google slides, how to use it in the classroom, and a video that is a beginner guide to Google Slides!

All Things Google Classroom!

Google Classroom

Recently, I have been looking more into Google Classroom, after I learned about it in a zoom presentation! Google Classroom is a great resource for educators and students to use, interactively! If you have never seen Google Classroom, it is a service that allows educators to create assignments, share files, see who's working on what, create with students, and even automatically grade assignments. Google Classroom is a true classroom, just paperless! The educator begins with their Google Classroom by creating a class, or multiple classes! Once you have your class created, your students can join the class through a class code. You can customize your classroom by giving it a theme and having background photos! In this Google Classroom, there is a Google calendar that can house all of the due dates for the assignments that are made, and you can create a weekly agenda! In Google Classroom there is a stream page where you can post updates, reminders and anything else on google classroom, and the students can either post on the stream or comment! There are so many ways you can organize and customize your Google Classroom. I think this is such a great way to use technology for learning. Students can work in groups or by themselves on things like reading articles, taking quizzes, working on a research paper or working on notes. Many students today love to get the opportunity to use technology in and out of the classroom. I have seen where some teachers post documents from the lesson, and assign homework on Google Classroom! Overall its a great resource that everyone should try out... and its free! There is so much I have learned about Google Classroom, and I know I will be using it in my classroom one day! I have attached a super helpful youtube video on how to use and organize a Google Classroom. This video has made me even more interested with all the cool tips and tricks provided. Below are photos of examples of Google Classroom and how this service looks!

Taking the Bitmoji Classroom to a whole new level

Taking the Bitmoji Classroom to a whole new level!

During a recent presentation, I got an opportunity to see how educators can use Bitmojis in the classroom. Bitmojis are cartoon characters that resemble their creator and they turn any class activity fun! From this presentation I learned how to use Bitmojis for students personally in the classroom, and how to make a virtual classroom with links to helpful sites! There were so many things that never crossed my mind when using the bitmojis, but from this presentation learned how to create virtual bitmoji field trips, use newsletters, create calendars, and how to use bitmoji feedback! All of these were so helpful and I learned so many tips and tricks on how to make learning fun! One cool thing as well... some bitmojis are animated! You can get them to dance and move around the screen. I saw a physical education bitmoji classroom, and it was so cool! With the bitmoji classroom, your possibilities are endless. The great thing about Bitmoji and creating classrooms, is that it is free! Most people use google docs and the Bitmoji browser extension. When creating a bitmoji classrooms, you can use google docs and add furniture, books, computers, and whatever else you want your classroom to have. You can input links that take you to educational sites and games when you click on the images in the classroom. Bitmoji classrooms are great for students who love technology, or just for online schooling. There are so many ways to learn, and some students do very well with online learning. In your bitmoji classroom you can link a "how to guide", to help with students and parents who may have questions! Attached in this blog is a short video on how get started creating your bitmoji classroom. Bitmoji classrooms are worth all the hype! Some photo examples are below as well!
